JONATHON BURDEN “A CULINARY ADVENTURE AFLOAT”
Chef Jonathon Burden
Jonathan grew up on the East Coast of New Zealand where he spent most of his time in boats and on the beaches involved in Surf Life Saving. At fifteen he found himself immersed into the kitchen and apprenticed for years learning the designs, skills and techniques that would give him his foundation in the culinary arts.
When he moved to the Cook Islands he got his first full time Chef’s job. It was during this time in the Cook Islands when he developed his love for fresh seafood and a tropical island style.
From there, Jon traveled around New Zealand and Australia working in restaurants gaining experience in different styles and designs. When Jonathon was twenty, he was then based in Dubai for over three years and enjoyed yet another new culture of food, style and inspiration in his cuisines.
Since joining the super yacht industry over a year ago in the Mediterranean, Jon valued the varied European flair of food. His zeal for flavors means guests do not have to compromise to preserve the pleasure of dining.
Jon is versatile, loves local fresh produce and seafood and enjoys using local spices when available. He will be sure to bring a cultural experience to MATAU’S table from Asian, Mediterranean and Tropical. Jon is proud to be able to bring a ‘culinary adventure afloat’ on MATAU for your guests
Stewardess Julia Fluhrer
Julia’s enthusiasm for people and adventure gives her commitment to the ability of making people comfortable and at ease. Her appropriate attentiveness to detail makes any guest feel distinguished and unique.
Born on the coast of Sydney Australia she spent most of her time outdoors, swimming, surfing and sailing on her family’s yacht. Julia’s keen love of people led her to the hospitality industry where she spent years working from beach cafes to top Fine Dining Sydney restaurants. Here she gained her experience in Silver Service and developed a great appreciation of fine food and wines.
At eighteen Julia was learning percussion music and was sent with an exchange program to Africa to learn their culture and rhythm. She spent six months working with a local West African music band named Kusun Group, where they travelled the country teaching and performing. Also during this time Julia did volunteering work at the local orphanages.
Returning home Julia graduated with a degree in Fine Arts, majoring in Sculpture. She was then commissioned to do an installation artwork at a major Music and Arts festival in Sydney. The need for travel and adventure found her leaving Australia again to experience new cultures and gain inspiration to broaden her horizons.
Julia’s creative talents shared with high quality service create a ‘one of a kind’ MATAU experience leaving guests onboard with a carefree holiday experience with the fondest of memories.
